Carb Rebuild

The Carb
I decided that as the “clever” bit of the engine, the carburator would probably be in need of some TLC and a good clean up and so made the decision to embark on stripping down as much as possible and thoroughly going through each bit.
Carefully taking the carb apart, I laid each piece out on the bench in their respective places, to ensure that I didnt get confused as to which screw / jet went where, and ended up taking a picture to use as reference when re-assembling. Using an old tupperware box I placed the body, jets and screws in and gave them all a good blast with carb cleaner – which I have to say does an amazing job, even tho it is pretty toxic (I managed to get a splash of it near my eye and could feel it eating away at my face).
Taking a look inside the fuel filter bowl, I could see it was pretty clogged up with all sorts of crap – I guess the filter was really doing its job! Taking a small flat screwdriver I dug the gunk out and gave it a blast with the cleaner, and it came up spotless.

Fuel filter crud
I pretty much used an entire aerosol on the carb and ensure that everything was as clean as a whistle. Although I dont have the replacement gasket kit yet (I am making a list of parts I need to order in large chunks), I rebuilt the carb with ease using my previous photo for reference, and it now sits ready for its gaskets replacing.
Now because of the strip down, I dare say there is going to be a period of tinkering when the bike first gets started, as all the mixture screws have now been changed so I am hoping to find a little guidance on the best setup and where to start (quarter of a turn here, 1 full turn there)
Maybe you can help?

The carb in its "exploded" view

Carb is simple to set up, mix screw 1 & 1/2 turns out as the starting point and turn a little each way until it idles nice and smooth, then adjust the tickover down.. check the float needle valve has a red rubber on the end (unleaded friendly) and not the OE black one, check the float doesn’t have fuel in it, new gaskets, done!
thanks for the info!! – i’ll be sure to refer to your instructions when it gets to the rebuild and the initial starting up of the motor. If I get any probs, i’ll drop you a line.
